Old Monroe Road Widening (U-4714) – Planning and development are underway to widen Old Monroe Road – from I-485 to Wesley Chapel Stouts Road – in the Towns of Stallings and Indian Trail.
Proposed work would improve traffic flow, reduce travel delays, and allow for more vehicles to travel in the area. Bicyclists and pedestrians also would have accommodations along the project corridor.
Work would be divided into three sections:
- I-485. IMPROVE INTERCHANGE (U-4714 AB)
- EAST OF I-485 TO WEST OF MORNINGSIDE MEADOW LANE (U-4714 AC)
- WEST OF MORNINGSIDE MEADOW LANE TO EAST OF SR 1377 (WESLEY CHAPEL-STOUTS ROAD) (U-4714 B)
McKee Road Segment A (U-4713A) - The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to extend McKee Road 4,000 feet from its existing terminus at Pleasant Plains Road to John Street.
Idlewild Road Widening (U-4913A) – The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to widen Idlewild Road (SR 3174) to four lanes from Stallings Road to I-485.
Lawyers Road Widening (U-6170) - The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to widen Lawyers Road (SR 1004) from I-485 to Stevens Mill Road (SR 1524).
Potter-Pleasant Plains Intersection Improvements – The NCDOT proposes to make intersection improvements to Pleasant Plains Road (SR 1364) at Potter Road (SR 1364) in Stallings (near the Citgo Station). Specifically, these improvements include left turn lanes and traffic signal modifications as well as curbs, gutters, and sidewalk connections.
I-485 Express Lanes (I-5507) – The I-485 Express Lanes project will add one express lane in each direction along I-485 between I-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard), providing travel time reliability and improving traffic flow in this critical transportation corridor. The project will also add one general-purpose lane in each direction along I-485 between Rea Road and Providence Road.
In coordination with other projects in southern Mecklenburg County, this project will serve as part of a larger network of express lanes offering drivers the option of more reliable travel times.
To minimize the duration of construction along the project corridor, three other projects will also be built at the same time as the I-485 Express Lanes:
- Ballantyne Commons Parkway bridge widening
- New interchange at Weddington Road
- John Street interchange improvements
